Do you ever find a quote you like so much you want to call up the author and book a flight to meet somewhere for tea at the first available space in his or her schedule. That is sort of the way I felt when I was browsing one of the blogs I follow and came across this quote from Come Sit by my Fire (http://comesitbymyfire.blogspot.com/)
"Tell me what you feel in your room
when the full moon is shining in upon you
and your lamp is dying out,
and I will tell you how old you are,
~ Henri Frederic Amiel
Of course when I checked out the author and discovered he died in 1881 I guess the tea party will have to be a dream. He was even Swiss (my heritage). Ok, Ok, do I sound like a drama queen? On some days I am and I’ve made peace with that. At least you know I’m alive. And for the most part I’m happy. Never get bored! Oh, a little existential loneliness perhaps but that, too, tells me I’m alive.
I might be getting into my ego too much. I'll have to go to confession to Eckhart Tolle, that dear man who has so much wisdom. I want to read everything he has written. Still, I’ve spent so much time and effort building up this ego. It’s hard to let it go.
I am so excited and happy because of the things we can learn from one another.
The moon you behold here is a very special moon that God spoke from, to someone who needed a Divine Message one night, but that’s a whole new story and not mine to share.
I know exactly what you mean about wanting to have tea with the authors of your favorite quotes. If I ever figure out a way to time travel, I'll invite you along for my tea with Amiel.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful quote. This is one of the things I love about this internet community, you come across so many things you wouldn't otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIt's OK to be a drama queen from time to time, by the way...
a warm quote with so much meaning and full of wonderment....
ReplyDeleteand I don't like winter either....my least favorite of the all the seasons, but hey if you can't beat it, join in the fun :)
In answer to your first question: Oh, yeah! All the time! In fact, one time I read a couple of really great books by a Benedictine nun and then I found out that she did retreat do I flew down to Arkansas and attended one! AND, I brought my dear friend along and we all know how that story went. : ) That makes me so happy.
ReplyDeleteYour whole post resonates with me. The image of the moon coming in the window to sit in my lap, Ekhart Tolle (reading him AGAIN, and again, hoping that it eventually really sinks in) and also just feeling really HAPPY. What a grace.
Love....
The other Beth weighs in :) ...
ReplyDeleteI love this post ! Yes ! tea with several folks would be awesome... And I love most of all / I agree that we all have so much to learn from each other and the words that so many folks share these days (& days of old) are such gift!
I'm catching up on posts which I missed over Christmas. This one is wonderful! I love the moon photo.
ReplyDeleteIt has been too long since I read Eckhart Tolle...I did love his writing!
I love how you don't "beat yourself up" for being an occasional "drama queen" ( if you say so) and for having an ego. Your words bring me peace, as usual!
